Smiling Your Best

May
by Kristenne Snelson

People from all walks of life love smiles. They are stress relievers and they make people feel good about themselves. Unfortunately, not all people are generous smile-givers and they are very shy about showing their teeth to just anyone. This doesn’t mean you have to do the same, especially if you intend to be very appealing to people. Having a smile becomes contagious and soon enough, people will find themselves grinning when they see you. More importantly, they will think that you are more appealing than what you objectively are. How is that possible, you ask? Let me explain.

Smiling automatically triggers the brain to feel happy, because smiles are associated with pleasant memories in the past. It is almost an automatic reaction, and nobody can really explain why people smile when they are happy. But more importantly, when they smile, their minds automatically reason out that something good must be happening. If you’re the reason why they’re smiling, their brain may figure out: Oh, this person in front of me must be attractive so I feel good about seeing him/her! As you can see, smiling = good feelings = attraction! The brain is an intelligent thing, but things like these do happen.

Are you insecure about your teeth? The dentist is always there to help you. If you want, buy oral bands to bring wide-gapped teeth closer to each other. It’s relatively less painful than most dental treatments, and the best part is that you do it yourself. However, having imperfect teeth doesn’t really excuse you from flashing a smile or two. Not all people are dentists and they have no business scrutinizing your teeth every time you see them! Spread the sunshine and see how bright you can make people’s day (including yours) become.

Teeth bands can close gaps on your teeth within a few weeks. This is generally faster and cheaper than getting braces or other expensive treatments. Fixing your gapped teeth will greatly improve your appearance. This will allow you to show you sweet smile to everyone. There are other quick ways on how to improve your look. These methods will make you become more beautiful instantly. They are perfect especially for busy women who are always on the go.

Shape Your Eyebrows

Use tweezers to remove stray hairs on your eyebrows. Eyebrows that are too thick do not look good. However, do not make them too thin to avoid looking old. They should have the right thickness for a natural look. You will notice a big improvement on your appearance after doing this.

Apply Powder, Lip Balm and Blush On

Sometimes less is more. You don’t always have to wear sophisticated make-up especially if you’re in a hurry. Apply some powder or light foundation on your face and neck, making sure that it’s even. Put some lip balm and a little blush on to add color on your cheeks. These steps will only take a few minutes to do. This simple make-up will make you look young and fresh.

Use Whitening Strips

Show your shiny white teeth and dazzle everyone with your smile. You can easily do this by using whitening strips. These products are available over the counter. Find those that are applied for only a few minutes. Put on the strips while fixing your hair, applying make-up and getting dressed. Once done, you can also remove the strips on your teeth and you’ll be ready to show everyone your big smile.

Apply Concealer

Having problems with your acne mark or scar? Use concealer to hide the imperfection on your face. This will make your skin look smoother and blemish free.

In an urban civilization, our consciousness has been molded to follow modern innovations of beauty practice such as the use of teeth bands for gapped teeth, the application of whitening lotion for fairly smooth skin, and the use of hair products for long, smooth and lively looking hair.

If in the contemporary period we consider a young lady with fair and smooth skin, well-proportioned body, and a regular features as the conventional standard of beauty, some cultures, on the other had, promote strangely different aesthetic practices that a modern woman would surely be hesitant of doing. But what if you are culturally bound to carry out a particular beauty practice, would you be that confident to carry out such tradition? Consider these practices of some countries:

An Indonesian tribal group, for instance, believes that a woman is more beautiful if she has sharp, pointed and chiseled teeth. For them, a chiseled set of teeth is also a form of high stature in the village.

Chinese men, on the other, prefer women with small feet – commonly known as the ‘lotus feet’ or ‘Golden feet.’ For them, bound feet is a form of income status and a proof of women’s worth.

Among the ethnic groups in the region of Africa, wearing of discs, plates, or plugs on their upper or lower lip, and sometimes both, are their standard of beauty and economic status. Lip plates, lip discs, and lip plugs vary in sizes and shapes to conform to the stature of individuals in the society.

Also, in some western cultures, obesity has become the ultimate emblem of success and prosperity. Women who go through extreme fattening, with special attention to the buttocks, are regarded beautiful by men in the society.

Apparently in the end, individuals develop their own standard of beauty, taking cue from the dictates of the family, tradition, peers, pop culture and mass media. Whether to be involved in the bandwagon depends upon the individual’s discretion.

Having perfect teeth certainly adds to your beauty points. It makes smiles the envy of many and a definite head turner! But what if you happen to be one of those unlucky people who get gapped teeth? Should this be a reason enough for you to feel less beautiful and less photogenic?

It has been long said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Thus, beauty is relative. There are people who might not seem very beautiful to you, but for others, they are the epitome of elegance and confidence. And then you wonder, how do these people do it – remain confident despite their shortcomings appearance-wise? How do they deal with the fact that they have gapped teeth, or big facial warts, or dry hair?

It all comes with confidence – knowing that you are beautiful just the way you are. And if this should help, there are also beauty products in the market that help you feel more beautiful and confident in yourself. Like for gapped teeth, Orthofill bands are quickly becoming a trend. Why wouldn’t they be? These bands, which are more than just dental health products, could definitely be considered beauty products. They help people with gapped teeth obtain the dreamy perfect teeth that they have longed for.

Furthermore, from customer reviews and ratings, these bands have definitely helped a lot of people feel more beautiful and confident with themselves. Another possible beauty product, which may make people feel more beautiful, is cosmetics! Pimple-erasers, concealers, and even the simple lip-and-tint products in stores definitely add up to one’s beauty points. Even hair dyes enhance facial features if you choose the right color, which suits your skin and hair type. These products certainly make you look fresher and more beautiful. Don’t put on too much though, or you might scare people away! But of course, you should still remember that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. No one and nothing should make you feel less beautiful and less confident, other than yourself!

Having perfect teeth is not an impossible feat anymore, and the facts remain, it’s just a matter of figuring out your options. In order to do that, you’ll also have to figure out why that smile is so important to both you and other people. For a good measure all you really have to do is to look at the celebrities you admire.

Now whoever you enjoy watching on the big screen, you might have seen most of them make a great big smile, grit their teeth hard, or just reveal a quick flash of their pearly whites. It’s just a part of their look, and while you might never attain that chiselled jaw or that gorgeous figure, you can have their smiles. The effort you put into this just boils down to gauging what is wrong with that smile.

The best way to do this is to get professional help. Make some time to visit a dentist and find out just what is wrong. Once you know the extent of the damage then you can figure out what is the best way to deal with it and if that is too expensive, alternatives are abound. If it’s a couple of chips in your teeth fillings would be a great option. Gaps can be filled as well or fixed by binding them tightly so that they start to rectify on their own. If the front of your smile is a little misaligned, then look through options like Invisalign.

Beyond your abundant options on fixing your teeth, there are also several reasons why you should opt for them. One of the best ones is because your dating life will be vastly improved. Beyond just showing off charisma, a smile exudes a form of charm on its own. A great smile works wonders for both men and women and can overcome a lot of other imperfections. It becomes a key in attraction, and will hook you a lot more dates, but that only happens if you take the chance to look good.

Hollywood’s celebrities are more often than not admirable. The very first thing that makes them venerable is their flashy wide smile. They all have perfectly pearl-white big teeth everyone seems to envy. It looks natural that it is not obvious they use oral bands or the likes.

Nonetheless, there are some other celebrities who are satisfied with their set of teeth. However bad it looks, the defect in their teeth seems to have added spice to their personalities. Here are several Hollywood celebrities with teeth defects but managed to maintain fame.

Tom Cruise. Up until now, he is one of the most revered Hollywood actors. But paying attention to his smiles, he usually flashes a gummy smile with his big two front teeth off-centered.

Madonna. In spite of the gap between her two front teeth, Madonna manages to smile beautifully and radiantly. She remains popular today with all her undying songs.

Steve Butscemi. Looking at his teeth, one can notice an atypical tooth that grew differently from his other teeth. Despite of that, Butscemi is often offered with movie projects, usually with an antagonistic role. His bad tooth formation has somewhat complemented to his fierce-looking roles in movies.

Elliot Yamin. An American Idol finalist, this good singer has bad teeth that appear yellow, oversized, and full of gaps.

Morgan Freeman. His incisors are partially hidden by his two front teeth that are even yellowish in color. The discoloration might have been an effect of smoking. Nevertheless, he is still regarded as a good actor.

Ricky Gervais. Apart from a vampire like fangs, his teeth are yellowish in hue. But then, this does not affect his popularity in the showbiz industry.

Mike Tyson. Perhaps one would surely notice what is wrong with Tyson’s teeth. Aside from his teeth gaps, his golden teeth jackets seem to scare anyone from tetanus. However, his teeth defects are what make him look fiercer in movies.
